All 66 Books: 1st Samuel

Need some background info on this series? See here and here.

I read 1st Samuel in my Chronological Bible, and it was my first time getting through this book.  According to Crossway, it takes 2 hours and 14 minutes to read through the book of 1st Samuel.

Just a reminder, it’s best to let scripture interpret scripture. I like these resources because they help me better understand scripture, but I may not agree with everything they say. As in all things, pray and invite God to help you in your time of reading and studying. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide you and use discernment when using resources outside of the Bible itself. “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15 NIV)

Here are some additional resources I recommend looking into after you read 1st Samuel through on your own:

All 66 Books: John

Need some background info on this series? See here and here.

John is my favorite gospel and I have read it and studied it many times.  I have actually started to read 1 chapter of John each day when I do my 21 days of fasting and praying in January as a way to see Jesus more clearly.  For my All 66 Books, I did watch The Gospel of John on Netflix, which is a word for word account. According to Crossway, it takes 1 hour and 51 minutes to read through The Gospel of John.

Just a reminder, it’s best to let scripture interpret scripture. I like these resources because they help me better understand scripture, but I may not agree with everything they say. All 66 Books: Ruth

Need some background info on this series? See here and here.

If you have ever been a single woman in the church, you probably know the book of Ruth.  Or really just any woman in the church, you know Ruth, Esther, and the Proverbs 31 wife. According to Crossway, it takes 14 minutes to read through Ruth.

Just a reminder, it’s best to let scripture interpret scripture. I like these resources because they help me better understand scripture, but I may not agree with everything they say. Rhenáe’s Randoms: Turning to God when Feeling Blah

I feel blah.  I can’t explain why.  I don’t even know why.  It’s just been a blah couple of days.  I don’t really have anything new going on.  All of my previous struggles are still the same, but I’m actually making progress on them.  But I still feel blah.  I’ve been running through the Rolodex, that is my life.  How do I feel physically? Emotionally? Mentally? Spiritually? Everything is really just blah.  I also realized that the status of the world and all the bad news is really crushing my spirit.  I’ve found myself saying almost daily that this side of eternity really sucks.  Then I noticed in one of my church small groups that everyone seemed to have things going on.  Multiple prayer requests were needed.  Daily for each person! We talked a bit about how it looks like the enemy is just attacking so many of us.

This led me to think about my spiritual life again.  I looked at what has changed for me.  I don’t really listen to praise and worship like I use to.  Maybe a song here and there.  (I actually don’t listen to music much at all, so this isn’t specific to a genre.)  I use to could spend a day listening to sermons all day long.  I would have a playlist of pastors and churches that I would make sure I caught there latest message each week.  I can’t exactly remember the last time I did a fast.  Personally, I’ve just been doing my Bible reading/studying and praying a bunch.  And I know there are seasons where you will depend on one spiritual discipline heavier than the others, but I do believe that we should find a way to practice all of them.  So I question if that is why I am feeling blah?

I know one thing that I am going to do is fast tomorrow.  Honestly, I was thinking of fasting on Wednesdays (I think I have a friend who does this), and then I realized tomorrow IS Wednesday.  I’m going to spend some time seeking God’s face and presence.  Letting Him know my struggle and see what comes out of that time.  I recommend that if you are feeling the same way that you start with picking a day to sit at the feet of Jesus and bring your thoughts and concerns to Him.  I pray that God can heal you during this time!

Journey to Entrepreneurship: Update

I planned on doing an update to this series a month or two ago.  And while I had it written, I didn’t get around to publishing it.  But it is July, and we currently have half a year left, and I realized that a lot of my goals fell away thanks to some things going on in my life.  But I want to share with you why that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

What’s Been Going On?

COVID…Civil Unrest…Medical Issues…Schedule Changes.  What isn’t going on at the moment?  While I won’t spend a ton of time talking about the current pandemic or how a majority of the country somehow is just figuring out that racism still exists, I will say it has impacted our household a ton.  I have an autoimmune disorder and have no clue if my body could handle the virus, so I am 100% onboard with staying in my house 24/7.  My husband is military and is considered essential, so he has no choice but to go to work.  He has also had a vast schedule change that impacts how we manage our household.  And we are Black, so racism is an everyday thing for us.  We live in the south and in a fairly whitewashed area where, unfortunately, we always have to be aware of those around us.  And whether it is the stress of all of that or completely random, I have been dealing with some medical issues that have wreaked havoc on my routines, sleep, and appetite.  To say I have been struggling is an understatement.

BUT…I recognized all of this and knew that meant that I had to make adjustments.  My health is obviously a priority to me, so that means I needed to focus on fixing those issues first.  My marriage is a priority, so with my husband’s schedule change, we had to work really hard to ensure we stayed on the same page and connected.  That meant that some things became less of a priority to me.  You may have noticed a lot of social media breaks from me.  My page tends to focus on my faith and my life as a housewife and how I manage all the things.  I give you a glimpse into how I plan, cleaning and cooking, my bible study and sermon notes, budgeting, and creating a business.  All I have had time for has been my Bible study, so I continue to post that.  There are some things that because I have built automated routines in place, I didn’t have to worry about like our budgeting.  Others, like cooking and the business, just haven’t been happening because those are things that I have the ability to put down for the moment.

Business Update

So while some of my goals for the business had to be pushed off, I was able to do some things that either took a quick moment or set me up for future projects.  For example, I established our LLC.  Before my focus shifted, I worked with a Career Manager, Business Coach, and Business Consultant who were very helpful in helping me streamline my thoughts.  I wrote a bit about them and will be sharing those resources on the blog.  I decided to continue my education by getting a certificate that I feel will further help me in my journey to become an entrepreneur.  I also decided to start the process of gaining an accreditation for an area that I have been interested in since I was a teenager.  Both start this year, and I will be sharing what I can from them.

What’s Next?

When I started this journey, I set a plan for myself.  2020 was going to be all about learning.  Taking courses, learn how to create and do new things, and get better at things I have current experience with.  2021 was going to be the year that I focused on launching and building our business(es).  And 2022 and beyond would be all about growing our business(es) and legacy.  With half the year left, I am still sticking to that plan.  The certificate and accreditation fit nicely into those plans as I will be taking classes and courses this year.  Next year, I will continue to gain experience using our actual business.  I’ve set a goal to do at least one thing a month for the rest of the year to move the business forward.  I’m hoping I will do more, but I wanted to make sure I started with an attainable goal.  The plan is also to write at least one JTE update a month.  I promised to bring you along on the journey, and I want to make sure I continue to do that.

Bible Reading Update…Again

I did not expect to do another update so soon.  While I am still doing my daily deep dive chronological Bible study, God has dropped it in my heart that I need to add in the Psalms.  At first, I was satisfying my need to read the Bible (in addition to studying it) by reading the four gospels in one month.  But after doing it for the first month, it was almost like God was telling me this isn’t where He wanted me at the moment.  So I am making a shift.  I am going to read one Psalm a day.  That’s it.  I don’t plan on doing anything in-depth unless I am led.  I most likely won’t write any posts about it on the blog.  I will probably go back to sharing it daily on social media and in my stories.  Feel free to read along with me!

All 66 Books: Judges

Need some background info on this series? See here and here.

The book of Judges is actually one of my favorite books.  And it is because I was able to spot the cycle, and I felt like it was the first book that I was able to understand at a deeper level.  According to Crossway, it takes 1 hour and 41 minutes to read through Judges.

Just a reminder, it’s best to let scripture interpret scripture. I like these resources because they help me better understand scripture, but I may not agree with everything they say.
